King Street is getting a read-iculously good addition next month. Ladybird Books, an independent bookstore, will open at 299 King Street (in the former Quiksilver space) later next month.

The 1,760-sqft space will feature shelves stuffed with best-selling literary fiction, contemporary Southern fiction and nonfiction, culture-driven cookbooks, and a “How to be a Human” section for memoirs and thought-provoking reads.

Summer Anderson, who founded Ladybird Books, says she wants the shop to be a space that hosts events, readings, and lively conversations — a welcoming third place where people can connect and linger. Fun fact: Ladybird Books is the official bookseller of the 2025 Charleston Literary Festival in November.

The bookshop will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stay tuned for an official opening date.

Austin Allison sold his first company to Zillow for $120 million. Now he’s building another real estate innovator in Pacaso.

Pacaso has already made $110 million+ in gross profits to date by disrupting the $1.3 trillion vacation home market, and the same big investors that backed Uber and eBay have already invested.

But unlike Austin’s previous companies, everyday investors (like you) can invest in Pacaso as a private company. Over 10,000 individuals already have.

The City of Charleston is looking to go “Griswold style” and take its holiday decor to the next level. Leaders are considering using surplus funds to increase the budget for holiday decorations and activities — spreading the decor beyond downtown. Don’t worry, there’ll be more decor on the peninsula, too. (WCBD)

There’s a new spot on Maybank Highway to enjoy Mexican cuisine. Let us introduce you to La Taqueria, from El Molino Supermarket. While the new Johns Island spot doesn’t offer a supermarket like its West Ashley and North Charleston sister locations, it still promises delicious food, including tamales made daily. Charleston County Public Library is rolling out new Youth Library Card options to let parents keep an eye on their child’s library experience.
