Who’s hungry?

Now December is here, it’s the season for a warm bowl of ramen. Talk about perfect timing — Bar Weems is about to open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant after years of feeding delicious grub to hungry Charleston locals through pop-ups.

We got a sneak peek at the new digs and sampled some dishes. Here’s what we loved:
  • The savory shoyu ramen (pictured above) was the star of the show.
  • We also got the wood ear mushrooms on the side, the perfect accompaniment.
  • And we can’t forget the Everything Fire Works cocktail made with mezcal, Italicus, olive brine, bitters, and goat cheese power. Trust us on this one.
Make sure to follow them on Instagram to get more updates on their upcoming opening.

News Notes

Edu

The Charleston County School District is offering financial incentives for students with good attendance. It’s the second time the program has run, with eligible families receiving $25 per week if their child has perfect attendance. Officials say they saw grades improve last time it ran, too. (News 2)

Photo of the Day

Photo submitted by Edward R.

We’re switching up today’s “Post of the Day” section, and turning it into “Photo of the Day,” thanks to this gorgeous reader-submitted photo from Edward R. that made us dream and reminisce about long summer nights:

“Here’s my favorite Charleston picture. Someone at our Fourth of July celebration picked up our son’s phone and started taking pictures, and to this day, we still don’t know who took it. The mystery of the photographer has only made this photo even more special to our family.”

🥘 The StoveShelf — as seen in Business Insider and Food & Wine. It’s a high-quality magnetic attachment for your stovetop that stores frequently used items like spices, condiments, and cooking oils.
🐻 Something that’s on every teenager’s holiday wishlist: the viral Starbucks Bearista bear cup. If you couldn’t get your hands on the original (they sold out within minutes), we found the perfect look-alike on Amazon.

The Wrap

There’s neigh way you’ll believe this one.

Have you heard of the European Brabant? It’s an endangered horse breed, native to Belgium, that can weigh up to 2,000 lbs. The Lowcountry is home to 10% of the US population, and the Post and Courier told their story.
