Answers are starting to emerge about the future of Marina Variety Store. Now shuttered, the iconic spot will undergo renovations and reopen under a new name: Finn and Crab. Owners plan to keep customer favorites on the menu in updated surroundings, and hope to open any day now. (ABC 4)
Holiday
There are changes to North Charleston’s planned festivities this weekend. The tree lighting will still take place tonight at Park Circle, but the parade and festival have been postponed because of expected wet weather. Both will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13. (WCSC)
Development
Did you know that huge trees can be moved and planted somewhere else? A century-old, 5,000-lb oak tree was just transported 750 ft at the site of Gather MTP — an incoming retail and dining hub in Mount Pleasant. Instead of removing the tree entirely, it will become a focal point of the development. (ABC 4)
Kids
Today would have been Walt Disney’s 124th birthday. While we can’t mark the occasion with a visit to his famous theme parks here in the Lowcountry, we can still do something fun for the little ones this weekend at a kid-friendly activity around town.
Number
$101. That’s the value of $100 in Charleston, according to a new Tax Foundation study on purchasing power across the US. Compare that to California’s $87.42, and your wallet may be feeling a bit thicker than before. Pro tip: Keep it that way by filling your calendar with free activities. (Upworthy)
Watch
“The Pitt,” “Severance,” and “Pluribus” are among Time Magazine’s top 10 TV shows of 2025. With the cost of streaming services going up and up, we’re planning to watch them on the couch this winter with a local lunch deal in hand.
Pets
Cats are naturally mysterious — but their health doesn’t have to be. With Basepaws Cat DNA Test, you’ll uncover your cat’s breed mix, genetic traits, and potential health risks that other tests miss. Get 47% off for Cyber Week and gain science-backed insights into your feline’s health.*
