Get your picnic baskets ready — there’s a new 67-acre park coming to West Ashley. We attended the groundbreaking of Old Towne Creek County Park yesterday and have the scoop for you.

Timeline

Tuesday Apr. 25 | Groundbreaking and Phase 1 of construction begins.

  • Phase 1 will include accessible trails and boardwalks, a nature-inspired playground, a small amphitheater, and opportunities to learn about the site’s history and ecology.
  • Mid 2025 - Projected opening of the park.

Shovels but make it fashion.

In 2005, a historic easement was placed on this land to ensure it would be used for historical and natural preservation . This will be honored through resource signage on the property.

The park is set to feature accessible trails, boardwalks, and pathways to accommodate all residents of the community. Sidewalks in the front will be widened to improve conditions.

In order to ease transportation, plans are in place to link the park to others in the area via bike and nature paths — which should make it easier to travel without a car between parks.

Another notable feature of this park is the Giving Tree metal art installation. Charleston County Parks created this project for the public to purchase a leaf for friends or family + proceeds go towards park conservation.

More information to come on the Giving Tree. On Tuesday May 16 the link to purchase leaves will be available. We’ll be sure to share this link with our subscribers.

Important note: the park will be closed to the public throughout construction. Contractors will be doing their best to ease traffic disruptions during this time period.
