Happy Thanksgiving, Charleston. Jen + Katie here. Earlier this month, we encouraged y’all to share your stories + photos of how you give back to Charleston, as a way to highlight and thank those who show love to our city. And that got us thinking… what are we here at CHStoday thankful for?

Jen: I’m thankful to be able to spend time over the holidays with my family and friends.

Katie: I’m thankful for my first Thanksgiving as a resident of Charleston, and all of my family and friends I get to spend the upcoming weeks with.

Whether it be volunteering at a particular organization, assisting those less fortunate in your neighborhood, or even just making sure your trash can lid is securely closed to keep our streets clean – here are a few ways y’all make Charleston a better place:

“I am lucky to be a Park Angel with the Charleston Parks Conservancy. Our mission is to connect people to their parks. Basically, we want Charleston to get out and enjoy the beautiful parks our city has. We accomplish this two ways. One way is through creating engaging events and programming in our parks. The second way is through renovating and maintaining exquisite gardens within our existing parks. It has been so rewarding.” Jessica B.

9/11 Heroes Run – Charleston | Photo provided

“I try to help you make CHS a better place by volunteering for the 9/11 Heroes Run - Charleston! 100% of the race proceeds are donated. Since 2012, the 9/11 Heroes Run has donated more than $118,000 to local first responders in Charleston, for better, more efficient life-saving equipment to use while aiding the citizens of our community. I cannot think of a better way to volunteer my time than to help those that are always there to help us!” Maureen G.

Being just a team of two, we know that a little hard work can go a long way. And in the spirit of giving, on behalf of all our readers, we will be donating to Lowcountry Food Bank. While it was a difficult choice – as we wish we could give back to all those in need – y’all let us know how much Lowcountry Food Bank does for our community.

With the slogan of “Feed. Advocate. Empower.,” Lowcountry Food Bank’s mission aims to help fight hunger in the Lowcountry. The community is encouraged to give back by donating food, money or time to help those in need.

Thank you again to all the organizations and individuals who give back to our community each and every day. Here’s to us coming together to give a little more thanks this season to those who need it most.
