Today is World Sea Turtle Day and Charleston is home to various kinds of sea turtles.
Did you know the South Carolina Aquarium has a special Sea Turtle Care Center
? Lately they have been making waves through the rehabilitation of multiple turtles from the care center.
- Green sea turtles Karina, Orion, Muenster, and Feta were released into a saltmarsh near Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge this week.
- At the beginning of the month, there were two large loggerhead turtles released back onto the shore of Folly Beach.
- In April, the aquarium released seven rehabilitated sea turtles back into the water in Florida (due to warmer weathers).

- You can buy a South Carolina turtle license plate to support SCDNR in protecting endangered and threatened species.
- The aquarium is always looking for help and you can volunteer to become a Sea Turtle Guardian , purchase an item from the wish list, or adopt an animal to get involved.
- The Coastal Expeditions Foundation is a local non-profit that works to protect wildlife and plans multiple community service events throughout the year.
