Lowcountry Oyster Company has some exciting changes just in time for oyster season. South Carolina’s largest oyster farm recently hired JB Borgstedt as its new Tour Director to expand its eco-tourism program.

The program has been expanded to five days per week, Monday through Friday, offering two 1.5-hour time slots per day — 10 a.m. + 1 p.m. The capacity for each tour is ten people, with plans to expand it to 30 people early next year.

The tours

Lowcountry Oyster Company’s offices are in Charleston; however, the farm is about an hour’s drive from Charleston at 15833 Bennetts Point Rd. in Green Pond. The tour shows the process of growing and shipping the oysters from the farm and factory. The team uses sustainable practices to produce oyster babies in the nursery, fostering growth into adulthood.

Tour participants should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty in and bring sunscreen, a hat, bottled water, and be ready to learn. Prices are $150 per person. Book online .
