You know Goose CreekCharleston’s next-door neighbor, just a ~30 min. drive up 1-26 W — but DYK that it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in SC?

Goose Creek’s growth is fueled by a burgeoning development + redevelopment scene : The City government had a big hand in attracting the new brewery that will open next quarter (the city’s first), and is close to launching its 10-year comprehensive plan, which will help further shape Goose Creek. Adding to the major growth is a close-knit Southern community, filled with local dining and shopping.

With some pro-tips from the locals, we created a day trip guide to Goose Creek with what to see, eat + do — so all you have to do is hop in the car and go. 🚗

Morning:

Head to one of Goose Creek’s local breakfast spots, like Ra Coffee Company , a coffee shop with indoor + outdoor seating, plus a double drive-thru window (ProTip: Try the mochaccino). If you need a bite to eat, stop by Juiceria Smoothie Bar + Cafe or Donut Connection , or grab something from the Italian espresso bar Cuppa Manna .

After you’re fueled up, take a hike on one of the ~20 miles of hiking/biking trails that run throughout town, or stroll over to the half-mile walking trail behind City Hall that residents are big fans of, according to the City. Another active idea? Hit some balls at Crowfield Golf Club (which also has a pub & grill for a late lunch on the patio).

Afternoon:

Get your shopping fix in at one of Goose Creek’s local retailers, like Beautifully Simple Soap for homemade herbal bath soaks, beard balm, and, of course, soaps made by the store’s female veteran owner. Then pick up a new book at Turning Page Bookshop .

After, indulge with a treat from the new location of Mama’s Bakery (coming soon) — or if you’re in the mood for something adventurous — try out Thai ice cream at QQ Thai ice cream and crepes .

Evening:

Before calling it a day, sit down for dinner at one of Goose Creek’s local eateries. Go for a relaxed vibe at the sports bar Two Keys Tavern , or enjoy a locally-sourced delicacy at Momo Kitchen & Market . (Blueberry basil salad, grilled dry-aged ribeye, and truffle fries? Say less. 🤤)

Bonus: If you’re planning to visit later in the year, check out the brewery we mentioned earlier — The Creek City Grill & Brewery — under construction now and opening in an old fire station in the second quarter of 2021. Wide Awake Brewing Company — a Summerville-based brewery that is moving into this new spot — will be the in-house brewers at the grill + bar.

Still got some time on your hands? Check out one of the city’s upcoming events, like Cookin’ in the Creek , a food truck festival happening on April 17, or the city’s first spring concert of the year on April 30. Find more upcoming events here .

Revision update: In the original version of this story, we incorrectly shared that anyone can hike at Marrington Plantation on Joint Base Charleston Weapons Station. Several of our readers let us know that since it is part of a military base, visitors cannot go unannounced — you need to be with someone who is active duty or retired, or go through a four-week civilian approval process. This story was updated on Mar. 23, 2021.
