On June 13, international social club Soho House dropped plans to open a new location in downtown Charleston.

The organization began in 1995 in London and has grown to include 39 locations worldwide. The largest of the US clubs is New York City, spanning six stories and 45,000 sq. ft.

Soho House will move into the Wagener building at 161 E. Bay St. This space is located in the French Quarter and previously housed the Lagunitas brewery.

Plans for Charleston’s club include:

  • Two floors of members-only space
  • A restaurant open to the public — through the Soho brand
  • A rooftop bar with views of the skyline
  • Dining space for members

Designs are said to draw on the historical aspects of Charleston and its natural beauty.

Membership for the club is very exclusive — with a waiting list of over 60,000 worldwide — but the criteria, which includes no corporate attire + working in a creative field, is uniquely based on originality over finance. We are pretty creative here at CHStoday... cough, cough.

If you are looking to become a member you must submit a head shot and be nominated by two current members. According to Eater, “In the U.S., annual memberships cost $2,100 to join a single club.”

The Charleston location is expected to open in 2024. If you are interested in becoming a member you can submit the interest form to subscribe to news and updates.

And, if any of y’all become members we will be patiently waiting to be your plus one.
