Summer is one of the best times to enjoy outside entertainment, and lucky for us we have several options for open-air venues. Whether it’s a large festival with national acts or a more intimate affair with local vibes, you can enjoy these venues for live music in the Lowcountry. Note: this is not a comprehensive list.
The Charleston Pour House |1977 Maybank Highway, James Island | The Deck stage offers a lively experience with diverse acts.
The Bend | 3775 Azalea Drive, North Charleston | This venue spreads 20 acres along the Ashley River and is an excellent option for lots of space and great views.
Riverfront Park Performance Pavilion |1061 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston | This pavilion sits on the Cooper River’s banks and has become a popular destination, especially for festivals.

Learning about your DNA may help improve access to personalized health care and support new research discoveries for our community. Enter: In Our DNA SC, a large-scale, first-of-its-kind community health research project that has been launched by MUSC Health.
This research project is part of the Helix Research Network, a leading population genomics company that combines the genetic and health information from health partners across the country to power genetic discovery. All information is held in a secure, privacy-protected database, and over time, this information will help researchers learn what may cause certain diseases, how to treat them more effectively, and ways to improve the standard of health care for all.
The goal: For 100,000 South Carolinians to join the project (at no cost ) over a four-year period. Currently, in year two, there are over 25,500 people enrolled.

On Monday, June 19 from 4–7 p.m. Operation Gratitude will be assembling teddy bears at the Isle of Palms Exchange Club. The program is aimed to give “Battalion Buddy Bears” to service members at Joint Base Charleston during events over the next few months. (CRBJBizWire)
Plan Ahead
This weekend is the anniversary of the Mother Emanuel shooting and the church is hosting memorial events to honor those who lost their lives. Today will be a Random Acts of Kindness Day, Saturday will be a day of remembrance, and Sunday they will host a Worship Service at 10 a.m. located at Mother Emanuel AME Church. (WCIV)
State
South Carolina public employees and teachers will receive a $2,500 salary increase starting next month. The K-12 public school increase is approximate and will vary by school district. Employee raises will begin in mid-July, as the fiscal year begins on July 1. (The Post and Courier)

Did you know Charleston is home to various kinds of sea turtles. The South Carolina Aquarium has a special Sea Turtle Care Center, and they have been making waves through the rehabilitation of multiple turtles.
Green sea turtles Karina, Orion, Muenster, and Feta were released into a saltmarsh near Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge this week.
The Coastal Expeditions Foundation is a local non-profit that works to protect wildlife and plans multiple community service events throughout the year.
I have said it before in the newsletter and I will say it again... I am obsessed with the Windjammer. In my opinion, not much compares to having your feet in the sand listening to your favorite band and sipping on a good drink.
