Are you ready for fun, food, and drinks? The 2024 Charleston Wine + Food Festival is just around the corner, beginning on Wednesday, March 6, and lasting until Sunday, March 10.

The popular festival already has events that are sold out. Don’t worry; we’re exploring some events you can still attend.

The festival is being held across several Charleston locations and features experiences like in-restaurant brunches, lunches, dinners, cooking classes, beverage workshops, thematic events, educational excursions, and many sampling opportunities.

Here are some of the festivities still available:
  • Rooted: Indigenous Foodways Excursion: Thursday, March 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. | This immersive day trip will explore the landscapes and footways of the Indigenous People of the Lowcountry. | $425
  • Culinary Village | Friday, March 8-Sunday, March 10, 1-5 p.m. | Explore Riverfront Park for the festival’s largest food sampling experience. | $169-$295
  • Baguette Magic(al) Pastry Brunch | Thursday, March 7, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. | Kick off your day with the folks from Baguette Magic in James Island. There will be pastries, classic breakfast dishes, mimosas, and coffee. | $145
  • Catch of the Day | Thursday, March 7, 2-4:30 p.m. | Enjoy locally-sourced bites, wine, cocktails, and the sunset at Bowen Island Restaurant. | $155
  • The Finale | Sunday, March 10, 6-8:30 p.m. | Get ready for flavors prepared by 30 talented chefs and 20+ beverage professionals and live music by Stop Light Observations. | $145-$225

Opening
  • A new restaurant, Bartaco, will soon open downtown Charleston at 304 King St. with dine-in and takeout options Monday, Jan. 29. Patrons can expect menu items like tacos and rice bowls. It will be the 30th location for the Arlington, VA-based company. (The Post and Courier)
Announced
  • Are you a fan of comedy? If so, you’re in luck. Six comedians, including Hannah Berner, Gabriel Iglesias, Katt Williams, Leanne Morgan, Jim Jefferies, and David Spade, are lined up to make a stop in the Lowcountry this year. See the details. (WCBD)
Development
  • There are plans for Trader Joe’s to open a second store in Mount Pleasant to offset the busy location at 401 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Location details and a timeline have yet to be announced. (The Post and Courier)
Eat
  • The Mills House Hotel will host chef and Lowcountry native Amethyst Ganaway and spotlight local community partners to celebrate Black History Month. On Thursday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m., guests can enjoy a cocktail reception followed by a six-course dinner at the hotel’s Iron Rose restaurant. Tickets are $175.

  • Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will hold its 8th annual Ice Cream for Breakfast Day on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. This day features a breakfast-themed menu + kids’ activities. Stay updated.
Legacy
  • Lt. Letty Whitehead, the North Charleston Police Department’s first female office and command staff member, has passed away. She was part of the original police force when the department was created in 1972. Read the announcement.

Bundle up Charleston. The forecast for this weekend has cold, even freezing temperatures.

The National Weather Service in Charleston shared with The Post and Courier that we can see temperatures ~20-25 degrees below normal and that the coldest periods will occur overnight. The most frigid morning will be on Sunday, where temperatures may reach 20 degrees inland and upper 20s near the coast.

The City of Charleston officials announced the opening of three warming centers.
