Get ready to lace up. The list of races taking place in the Charleston area is packed with runs and walks for all ages and skill levels. Many of these events support local causes, so keep reading to find one that inspires you to prepare for your next race.
Race for the ARK | Saturday, Aug. 24 | Summerville | In its 25th year, this annual race includes a 5K run/walk and a one-mile fun run and ends with a block party with local vendors, food trucks, live music, and kid activities.
9/11 Heroes Run | Saturday, Sept. 14 | Daniel Island | This 5K invites all ages and levels to honor those who we lost on 9/11 and those who still currently serve.
Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run | Sunday, Sept. 29 | Charleston | Bring the whole family — this kid run will also feature a family festival with face painting, a jump castle + slide, free hot dogs, and more.
Meatball Run 5K | Saturday, Oct. 5 | Summerville | Before you enjoy the Summerville Italian Feast, take part in the second annual 5K or 1-mile fun run.
The Turkey Run has been a tradition in the Holy City for the last 47 years.

Turkey Day Run | Thursday, Nov. 28 | Charleston | An annual Charleston Thanksgiving tradition, you can run or walk through historic downtown Charleston.
Kiawah Island Marathon + Half Marathon | Saturday, Dec. 14 | Kiawah Island | This event features a new course with the race starting and beginning in the West Beach Village.
Reindeer Run | Tuesday, Dec. 24 | Charleston | Dress up in your favorite festive outfit — you can walk or run in this family and pet-friendly 5K race.

NICO on Shem Creek has reopened after a vehicle collided with the building last weekend. Everyone is safe, and the structure remains sound. Check out how the restaurant has bounced back.
Eat
King Street Foods is a new restaurant located at 347 King St. between Mama Kim’s and Kenny Flowers. The eatery serves Thai cuisine, like red curry with rice, pad see-ew, and tom yum soup. (The Post and Courier)
Drink
Headed to the airport soon? Travelers can now grab a coffee from the new Starbucks at the Charleston International Airport’s Central Marketplace that opens today, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m.
Development
MUSC’s board recently voted to buy Roper Hospital’s nearby campus once Roper moves to North Charleston in 2029. The sale will be in three areas: the 900,000-sqft hospital building, the parcel where the medical office building is, plus the nearby parking, and the parking garages on Doughty + Lucas Streets. Sports
The Charleston County School District’s preseason Dave Spurlock Football Jamboree, originally scheduled for this Friday, Aug. 16, has been canceled this year. The event was called off due to the effects of Tropical Storm Debby, which prevented many teams from practicing for a week. (WCIV)
Arts
Charleston Stage will present the production, “Fiddler on the Roof,” at the Historic Dock Street Theatre from Wednesday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 22. Tickets range from $47-$91. The musical has won nine Tony Awards. (Holy City Sinner)

Get up close with archaeologist Andrew Agha and his team as they unearth new discoveries from a historic cellar during “Archaeology in Action: The Kitchen House,” every Wednesday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can catch the action for free with admission to the Nathaniel Russell House Museum.*
