Be the star of your own small town romance novel in Asheboro, NC

A series of photos showing a covered bridge, a sign that say's "Downtown Asheboro" and a man hiking.
While Sparks never names the “brew pub” in the novel, we like to think it was Four Saints Brewing Co. | Photos provided by Heart of North Carolina Visitors Bureau. Gif Created by CHStoday.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a character in a Nicholas Sparks novel?

ICYMI: Nicholas Sparks’ latest novel, “Counting Miracles,” takes place in Asheboro, NC — only three hours away from CHS.

While we can’t promise an intrepid romance like you find in the New York Times No. 1 bestseller, we can share four locations featured in the award-winning author’s most recent work:
  • The North Carolina Zoo — If you’re an exotic bird, we’re an exotic bird.
  • The Uwharrie Mountains — Take a hike in the old national forest and keep an eye out for any miraculous creatures that might be lurking.
  • Downtown Asheboro – We want all the local antique shopping, forever, every day.
  • Asheboro Public Library – Snag a copy of “Counting Miracles” and see which other locations the characters in the book visit.
Okay, we know we snuck in some references from The Notebook, but it wasn’t over. It still isn’t over.

Woogity woogity. Season four of Netflix’s “Outer Banks” has dropped, and to celebrate its release, the cast held a red carpet + screening right here in the Holy City. Fans lined John Street and the surrounding block to get a glimpse of their favorite Pogues and Kooks.

In past seasons, several Lowcountry landmarks have been spotted, and this season is no different. You may also recognize some of your favorite Charleston brands.

We chatted with Missy Johnson, the artist + owner of Black Octopus Mercantile in Park Circle, who shared, “I work with the Set Decoration Crew so you may spot some of my T-shirts, hats, hoodies, and stickers.” Look closely and you will spot the stickers on John B.’s Twinkie Van on the panel behind the front passenger seat.

Psst... we asked the cast members about their favorite Charleston restaurants — stay tuned for their answers.
