News Notes

Closing
The team at Blu Oyster announced it will close its doors on Monday, Nov. 18. The Johns Island sushi and seafood spot will offer a limited menu, half-price sushi, and happy hour specials until their final day. Read the message to their customers.

Development
Beaver nuggets, brisket, and beverages — oh my. That can only mean one thing — the popular Buc-ee’s travel center is coming to the Lowcountry. The City of Hardeeville, which is ~90 miles south of Charleston, announced it will open a location. There is no estimated opening date yet. (WCBD)

Eat
Prepare your taste buds. On Wednesday, Nov. 20, head to The Porter Room at Holy City Brewing for Oysters on the Rocks, an oyster and gin pairing experience. At the event, you’ll also learn how to shuck oysters, prepare an oyster shooter, and enjoy a traditional oyster roast. Tickets start at $75.

Seasonal
‘Tis the season. The annual Holiday Market by Gilmore Shows will make its annual stop in the 843 this weekend. The event will run from Friday, Nov. 15 through Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Charleston Area Convention Center. (Holy City Sinner)

Art
This Thursday, Nov. 14, the Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival will return for the 18th time. This year’s event will run through Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Queen Street Playhouse and features films, documentaries, and fashion. (The Post and Courier)

Travel
Did you know? It’s National Aviation History Month. Take a look at some throwback pictures of the Charleston International Airport. If you’re planning a trip out of town, navigate the airport like a pro with our guide.

Correction
Get ready to get festive and active. Yesterday we shared details about upcoming holiday races, and we’d like to correct one of the dates — the 33rd annual Reindeer Run will take place this Saturday, Dec. 14. You can walk or run in this family and pet-friendly 5K race.

Edu
Did you know? When you play the SC Education Lottery, you’re supporting students in our state. Lottery proceeds — we’re talking billions of dollars — have helped fund higher education scholarships, school buses, new technology, classroom updates, and more. Now that’s winning.*

Pets
Furniture gets scratched, shoes get chewed, toys go missing. These are regular occurrences in life with pets. But a $10,000 emergency surgery? That’s a whole other ball game. Fetch Pet Insurance could help you offset some of these nightmare scenarios by providing comprehensive coverage and up to 90% reimbursement.*

Cheers to two decades of seafood by the seashore. Fleet Landing, a locally-owned, downtown waterfront restaurant, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with two fundraising events that will support Charleston Waterkeeper, a local nonprofit that works to protect, preserve, and restore Lowcountry waterways.

Shucks + suds
Fleet Landing invites folks to the oyster roast hosted at Edmund’s Oast Brewing, on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 3 until 7 p.m. Tickets start at $30 and include all-you-can-eat oysters and a beverage. Proceeds will be donated to Charleston Waterkeeper.

Day of giving
On Saturday, Nov. 30, Fleet Landing will host a day of giving where 20% of the restaurant’s sales will be donated to Charleston Waterkeeper. Bonus: Fleet Landing will also match any additional donations made on-site. Secure your reservation.
