Kids will love the colorful + immersive exhibits at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry. | Photos by CHStoday
Calling all kids (and those young at heart). We recently visited the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry and the interactive space made us feel like a kid again.
Following a recent makeover, the museum is now open daily with revamped exhibits, exciting enhancements, and Super Celebration Saturdays — a year-long series of fun events for kids under eight and their families. Don’t miss highlights like:
Live 5 News | Step into a news studio and experience what it’s like to be a news anchor.
Infant & Toddler Playspace | A safe space where little ones can explore and play with tactile, fine motor toys.
Publix Market | A mini grocery store where kids can sort, count, wait in line, and learn about colors + cooperation.
Boeing Brightlab | Kids can experiment with real tools, exploring math, engineering, and problem-solving concepts through hands-on building projects.
Bonus: The expanded gift shop offers a wide selection of tax-free toys, games, and plushies, and every purchase helps support the museum’s mission.
This mansion was recently listed at the corner of State and Queen Streets. Built in 1814 within the original walled city of Charles Towne, the historic three-and-a-half-story home features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Development
A new events venue has opened 30 minutes outside Downtown Charleston in Awendaw. Formerly a 1950s dairy farm, the property has been transformed into The Bark Barn. City editors Callie and Erika are checking it out this week and can’t wait to report back. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)
Environment
No more monkey business. After ~three months, the final monkey has been captured and was found safe following the escape of 43 monkeys from a research facility in Yemassee back in November. The future of the monkeys remains to be determined. (WCSC)
Festival
Lowcountry Oyster Festival, happening this Sunday, Feb. 2, recently announced that Old Soul will headline the live music lineup, featuring Bryan the DJ and The Secret Ingredients. Attendees can enjoy over 45,000 pounds of oysters, oyster shucking and eating contests, and a dedicated children’s area.
