Hugh Corcoran, co-founder of Wild Blue Ropes on James Island, confirmed that the adventure park has closed after 10 years of operation. The park was known for its rope courses, which hosted things like birthday parties and team-building events.
Development
James Island’s Riverland Terrace neighborhood is getting a new park. The site of the former Civil War-era Fort Pemberton will be transformed into a public park. The plan aims to preserve the fort’s historic significance while providing features like walking trails, a sheltered picnic area, and kayak docks. (WCSC)
Traffic
After the City of Charleston partnered with Flowbird to replace all parking meters with updated, advanced solar-powered ones, now hundreds are not functioning. City officials are working with Flowbird to make things right. For now, drivers won’t be penalized for parking at a broken meter. (WCSC)
Drink
Charleston Brunch Festival tickets are live. The festival is happening on Saturday, March 29, at Johnson Hagood Stadium. From 12 to 4 p.m., guests can sample some of Charleston’s best brunch spots while enjoying drinks, live music, a silent disco tent, and a DJ room.
Closing
National fabric and craft retailer Joann has filed for bankruptcy for the second time and announced the closure of 500 of its 800 locations nationwide. According to Good Housekeeping, the Joann store on Ashley Crossing Drive is among those affected. However, there is still a local location in Summerville. (The Post and Courier)
The annual Teddy Bear Picnic returns on Sunday, March 2, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Hampton Park. This year’s theme is “The Lorax!” Families are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters while enjoying live entertainment, interactive activities, and programming for kids ages 2-10. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and entry is free. (Holy City Sinner)

👋 Meet the team
Erika + Callie both started writing for CHStoday in 2023. | Photo by the CHStoday team
Hey Charleston, Erika + Callie here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with readers daily.
Since we’re celebrating CHStoday’s seventh anniversary, this may be a perfect time to formally reintroduce ourselves. Consider this us going in for a fist bump, then switching to a handshake, then settling on a hug.
Meet Erika
What were the last three things you did downtown?
I spent last Saturday wandering around downtown with no specific plan or direction. It was a beautiful day, and I noticed so many things I wouldn’t have while driving. I’ve also checked out one of King Street’s newest spots, Legami, and visited the Brackish pop-up.
Meet Callie
If you could write about one Charleston-specific topic for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would have to be the people. Charlestonians make this city what it is — from people who make our favorite small businesses run to the neighbors who show visitors what our southern hospitality is about.
It’s Valentine’s Day and Friday… a combo that won’t happen again for another six years. Why not treat yourself for the occasion? We’ve got five picks we think you’ll love.
I want to keep sharing the love — I’m so grateful to write for CHStoday, and Callie and I love hearing from you, our readers, about the impact it has on the community. Cheers to seven years and beyond. 🥂
Psst: If you need any last-minute plans or ideas for Valentine’s Day, check out our roundup of things to do.
