Hey Charleston, Erika + Callie here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with readers daily in Charleston — here and on our socials.

Since it’s the beginning of a new year, this may be a perfect time to formally reintroduce ourselves. Consider this us going in for a fist bump, then switching to a handshake, then settling on a hug.

Meet Erika

What were the last three things you did downtown?

I spent last Saturday wandering around downtown with no specific plan or direction. It was a beautiful day, and I noticed so many things I wouldn’t have while driving. I’ve also checked out one of King Street’s newest spots, Legami, and visited the Brackish pop-up for SEWE at The Charleston Place with Callie.

What is your favorite part about being a City Editor for CHStoday?
I’m always learning something new about my hometown. Being a continuous learner is so rewarding, and I try to soak it all in like a sponge.

What season do you enjoy most in Charleston?
Spring. There’s something truly special about the blooming blossoms, and it feels like the start of the events season in our city.

Describe Charleston’s personality in three words.
Friendly, historic + pretty

Meet Callie

If you could write about one Charleston-specific topic for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would have to be the people. Charlestonians make this city what it is — from people who make our favorite small businesses run to the neighbors who show visitors what our southern hospitality is about.

What season do you enjoy most in Charleston?
Are you kidding? There is no way to pick just one, so I’ll share a little bit of what I love about each one.
Summer | Taking the boat out, being in the water, and cookouts.
Fall | The cooler weather that settles in after a hot summer + the countless festivals and events that pack our calendar.
Winter | The beaches aren’t crowded, and oyster roasts.
Spring | When our parks start to bloom with bright and beautiful flowers.

What is your favorite sweet treat in Charleston?
This is a tough one, there are so many great pastry shops and bakeries, but I’m going with a cocktail — Legami’s espresso martini is divine.

Describe Charleston’s personality in three words.
Charming, resilient + kind
