Hey Charleston, Lexa + Tatum here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with 50,000+ readers daily in Charleston — here, and on our socials.
Though CHStoday may not be new to you, it’s possible you’ve noticed two new faces at the bottom of the newsletter. After months of bringing you CHStoday, we thought we should formally introduce ourselves.
Meet Lexa 🐙
Q: You can only choose one local restaurant menu to bring with you to a deserted island — which one is it + why?
A: Definitely Basil Mt. Pleasant’s menu. You quite literally have to restrain yourself from ordering everything + you definitely end up rolling out of the restaurant — in the best way possible. The chicken and shrimp pad thai is to die for.
Q: If you were taking someone on a tour around Charleston, where are the three places you’re going?
A: The weather is usually sunny, so our first stop is The Co-Op cafe for frosé and a California Turkey sandwich. From there, we’re headed to Sullivan’s Island to soak up the sun. Later, we’ll head downtown for dinner + a drink. One of my favorite stops is Pearlz Oyster Bar. Pro tip: sitting outside makes the experience that much better.
Q: Describe Charleston’s personality in three words.
A: Eclectic, lively, and historic (duh).
Meet Tatum 🍍
Q: You can only choose one local restaurant menu to bring with you to a deserted island — which one is it + why?
A: This is hard. I think I’d bring Chubby Fish’s menu. Everything I’ve tried so far is delicious (especially the chili garlic shrimp) and seafood would go well with the island scenery.
Q: If you were taking someone on a tour around Charleston, where are the three places you’re going?
A: My friends and I usually walk a few blocks to Queen Street Grocery for smoothies + bacon and egg sandwiches. We’ll stroll through the South of Broad neighborhood to ooh and ahh over the beautiful historic homes. The best part is heading over to Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park to watch the sunset with Ravenel Bridge views.
Q: Describe Charleston’s personality in three words.
A: Charming, vibrant, and scenic.
