Good news, Holy City: Evenings at The Joe are back.

The Charleston RiverDogs’ home opener is tonight against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. You could say excitement is building as we anticipate the first Fireworks Friday. Pro tip: Take a peek at the promotions calendar for all the other fun nights planned for this season.
RiverDogs win their first-ever title

RiverDogs won consecutive Carolina League championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Before you root, root, root for the RiverDogs, take a peek at the team’s 30+ year history. While you might be familiar with the team’s “Director of Fun,” Bill Murray, you might not know the history of this Single-A Minor League Baseball team.

Charleston Royals
The RiverDogs launched as the Charleston Royals in 1980 — a name that lasted four years. During this time, the team saw Major League stars Danny Jackson, David Cone, and Kevin Seitzer. The team began as an affiliate of the Kansas City Royals before switching to the San Diego Padres.

Mayor Cogswell will deliver the State of the City address at the Charleston City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 8, at 5 p.m. He will review the Holy City’s achievements and discuss future initiatives. Pro tip: The meeting will also be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel.

You can later this month, at Dancing on the Cooper on the Mount Pleasant Pier. On select Fridays this summer, you can enjoy live music, dancing, and community from 7 to 10 p.m. Pro tip: Don’t forget to bring your chairs.

Attendees can purchase food and snacks at the River Watch Café near the pier’s entrance. Check out the menu. Pro tip: Outside food, alcohol, and coolers are not allowed.
