Larger cargo ships could soon pass through the Port of Charleston. Thanks to a $23 million infrastructure upgrade — including a new toe wall and dredging — the Wando Welch Terminal can now accommodate three mega container ships at once, regardless of the tide. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)
Opening
The Nickel, a new boutique hotel, is opening next month in the former Dixie Furniture building on King Street. The 50-room hotel will also feature a public rooftop bar and lounge called Rosemary Rose. (The Post and Courier)
Active
Registration is still open for the 10th annual #Race4Wanza Doughnut Dash 5K, happening this Saturday, April 26 in West Ashley. The race honors TyWanza Sanders, the youngest victim of the 2015 Mother Emanuel Church Massacre. After the run, participants can head to the after-party at Paisano’s Pizza.
Plan Ahead
We know it’s April, but it’s never too early to plan for the holidays. Tickets are now on sale for “NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet,” coming to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on Dec. 26. The show brings the classic holiday tale to life with world-renowned ballet dancers.
Development
Moncks Corner and Berkeley County are teaming up to create a new community park on about five acres along Epson Plantation Drive. The property includes centuries-old live oaks that will now be protected. A concept plan and capital investments are expected to begin next year. (WCSC)

Get ready to raise a glass — Charleston Cocktail Week returns today, April 21 through Sunday, April 27, bringing the community together to celebrate the city’s vibrant cocktail scene.
More than 30 bars and restaurants across the Charleston area — including Downtown, James Island, Johns Island, North Charleston, and West Ashley — will showcase signature cocktails and offer specials for Cocktail Week Pass holders (passes start at $15).
