About a month ago, an osprey nicknamed “Big Rich” by the Charleston County Parks team was rescued by lifeguard Richard Miller, the bird’s namesake. Miller spotted the bird struggling in the waves near the Folly Beach Pier. He paddled out on his rescue board and brought the bird safely to shore.
At the Avian Medical Clinic, the team discovered the osprey was entangled in fishing line and had been hooked three separate times. Big Rich has been in the Center for Birds of Prey’s care, and is now in an outdoor enclosure — gaining strength and healing more each day.
