Let us introduce you to The Historic Charleston Foundation’s Archival Collection. It’s an online collection that houses architectural information, historic photographs, architectural drawings, neighborhood maps, book sources, and other materials that provide insight into the city’s past.
I’ve been exploring old properties, quaint homes, and grand residences. I’ll share some of my findings soon, but in the meantime, look at some of these Ansonborough neighborhood listings from yesteryear.
There’s a special election on Folly Beach today to fill an empty City Council seat. The seat opened after Chris Bizzell became the island’s first new mayor in more than a decade. The winner will serve through November 2027. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Folly Beach Baptist Church. (WCBD)
Development
Here’s a peek at the proposed Comprehensive Cancer Hospital. The state’s only dedicated cancer hospital would rise 14 stories and cost $1 billion. Planned near Rutledge Tower, it’s expected to open by 2028 and will offer surgeries, stem cell transplants, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, infusion services, and clinical trials. Peter Washington’s The Washington Cafe is now open on McKnight Road in Mount Pleasant. The new space was inspired by Washington’s mother and aims to spark conversation + community while offering coffee, food, and an art gallery. While you’re there, enjoy a famous sweet potato pie.
