Food, tennis, and family fun — what more could you ask for?
Are you ready for it? This weekend is the unofficial start of event season and possibly the busiest three days in the Lowcountry. Starting on Friday, the Charleston area will play host to thousands of guests in town for the Cooper River Bridge Run, Credit One Charleston Open, and the Flowertown Festival.
This year, I have plans to attend the Credit One Charleston Open and the Flowertown Festival. Maybe next year I’ll train for the bridge run and complete the trifecta.

Mark your calendars for Shakespeare on the lawn this month
Presented by Ashley Hall
Take a look at these photos from 2018, 2022, and 2024 performances for a sneak peek of what to expect. | Photos provided by Ashley Hall
Our idea of a perfect evening? Shakespeare and a blanket on the lawn.
Ashley Hall welcomes the community to three outdoor performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the historic Bear Cave stage:
Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m.
Saturday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
Sunday, March 29 at 4 p.m.
Set against the backdrop of early spring, the show offers a memorable night of theater as student performers bring one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies to life.
Picture a relaxed, “Shakespeare in the Park”-style evening on Senior Lawn as the sun sets.
Tickets are General Admission. Seating will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on the lawn. Concessions will be available for purchase — outside food and drinks are not allowed.
Pro tip: Sunday’s performance features a Fairy Matinee with family-friendly touches. Students under 17 receive free admission when wearing fairy wings.
Today just won’t be as sweet. Little Peanut Bake Shop announced its closing. The team wrote in an Instagram post that after more than five years in business, it is taking time to focus on family. Its last day of retail service was last week.

More Charlestonians might be grabbing a bar stool (and maybe a mocktail) instead of stocking the home bar. Liquor store sales in the US dipped by roughly 5% last year, while spending at bars rose by 4%, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics. (NBC News)

Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and pollen is doing its thing to sinus tracts across Charleston. Spring is officially here, and we’re coming up with a few bucket list activities we’re eyeing up for the season:
I’m adding the World Grits Festival to the list. About an hour up the road in St. George, folks gather to celebrate the dried, ground staple. I just have to see the Rollin’ in the Grits contest in person.
