An SC-born artist, Rodney McMillian, is making waves with his first solo exhibition in the Southeast at the Columbia Museum of Art. Though now recognized nationally and internationally, audiences will discover he hails from Columbia, SC, adding a local connection to this major show.

The city’s Office of Small Business Enterprises celebrated the opening of its new retail business hub on King Street, called Palmetto Row Collectives. The space comprises boutique-style retail suites and aims to support entrepreneurs by providing affordable retail space in the heart of downtown’s shopping district. (Holy City Sinner)

Over half would be deemed affordable under Project 3500, which aims to add 3,500 affordable units by 2032. A Bloomberg expert estimates subsidizing them all could cost roughly $800 million in total citywide effort. (The Post and Courier)
SCDNR has closed Crab Bank, Deveaux Bank, and Bird Key for the coastal bird breeding season. Birds such as laughing gulls, brown pelicans, and oystercatchers will flock to these areas to nest. The bird sanctuaries will be off limits to the public until Thursday, Oct. 15. (WBCD)
