Weight loss medications are everywhere right now — but with the buzz comes a lot of questions. At Novant Health, the focus is on helping patients cut through the noise and find safe, personalized solutions that actually work.
A doctor-led approach to weight loss
According to Dr. Neil McDevitt, a bariatric surgeon with Novant Health General Surgery & Bariatrics, medications like GLP-1s can be powerful tools — but they’re not one-size-fits-all. With locations in Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Goose Creek, and Beaufort, his team works closely with patients to determine the right path forward.
What to know about GLP-1s
GLP-1 medications are designed to support weight loss by:
Reducing appetite
Helping you feel full longer
Supporting better blood sugar control
But they’re most effective when paired with medical guidance, lifestyle changes, and ongoing support.
Is it right for you?
Weight loss is personal — and sometimes complex. That’s why having a trusted clincian matters. Whether you’re just starting to explore options or looking for a more structured plan, a consultation can help you better understand what’s available and what fits your goals.

Just in time for summer, The Dunlin has launched its riverfront bungalows. The 503-sqft spaces offer a king bedroom and a kitchenette — but we’re most excited about the oversized porch perfect for slow mornings, where you can sip your coffee and scroll your CHStoday newsletter. We recommend booking a spa treatment during your stay.

Oysters, octopus, soft-shell crab — oh my
The level of umami in the blue crab rice dish packs is unreal — it’s currently making my mouth water. | Photo by CHStoday
Delaney Oyster House’s menu is loaded with Lowcountry, springtime favorites that are sure to fill your table for a mouthwatering spread.
I recently stopped by the Calhoun Street spot to try things out. The staff was one of the kindest and most hospitable I’ve come across, and the food was (pause for dramatic effect) chef’s kiss. These are the picks you won’t want to miss.
Let’s get things started
Start with the Pear Necessity — sweet, spiced rum with pear, sage, and honey. Pear it with raw, dressed local Bulls Bay oysters + the ones roasted in rich miso butter, ginger, and fennel.
Main event
The blue crab rice was the star of the show. It left such an impression on me that I’m actively making another reservation for more. The Carolina Gold Rice is loaded with lumps of crab meat, sofrito, cilantro, and bacon. I highly recommend topping it with a crispy soft-shell crab.
The Buy Editor Emily here. Meet my dog Meredith. Like so many incredible pups, she’s a rescue.
Until recently, I didn’t know much about her breed, or how to best care for her. Thanks to Embark’s Breed + Health Dog DNA Test, that’s all changed. I’ve learned Meredith is a mix of American Pit Bull, Australian Cattle Dog, Dalmatian, and that she may be at higher risk for Intervertebral Disc Disease. Now I can take proactive steps to support her health — like keeping her on a balanced diet and opting for a harness over a collar to help reduce strain on her spine.
Try Embark for your dog, discover their unique DNA, and give them the best possible care.
🧸Be on the lookout, Bearsys is missing his family. A few days ago, this sweet teddy was left in the Halls Chophouse dining room (where he’s enjoying lots of treats). If you recognize Bearsy or know who is missing him, give the team a shout.
