⛵️ Ready, set… regatta go

Sailboats race on Charleston Harbor against a backdrop of a large bridge and ship. The skies are clear, and the water reflects the boats, creating a dynamic scene.

Post by @chsraceweek

If you see 100+ boats racing around the Charleston Harbor today, it’s because Charleston Race Week is officially underway.

Happening today through Sunday, April 19, the annual keelboat regatta is one of the largest and most prestigious, attracting international sailors.

News Notes

Development

Plans for The Bellinger, a boutique Daniel Island hotel, are on hold as the land was listed. The project included a restaurant, event space, and guest cottages + cabanas. Hospitality Group, Indigo Road, is no longer involved. Developers say the project remains possible as they seek the right partner. (The Post and Courier)

Coming Soon

Shoppers will soon have more options at Tanger Outlets — Abercrombie & Fitch, Swarovski, Spring Step, and Simply Southern will set up shop this summer. Palmetto Clayground, a walk-in studio, is set to open next month. Shake Shack is scheduled to open next year. (Holy City Sinner)

Edu

The Charleston Learning Center has expanded its artificial intelligence curriculum to build confidence, reduce confusion, and empower the community. Tri-county residents can explore AI for free through a Google-funded grant or join the new Collaborating with Agents series to better understand modern AI systems and how techniques like reverse prompting.

Try This

Celebrate the 79th annual Charter Day award winners on Thursday, April 30 at 6 p.m. Each spring, the Historic Charleston Foundation commemorates its 1947 founding by honoring contributions to the preservation of Charleston’s architectural character. Following the ceremony, there will be a reception at the Nathaniel Russell House.

Asked

Businesses, like the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club, were asked to vacate their spaces at the Citadel Mall to make way for the MUSC expansion. Now, the train club is looking for a new home. Know a space? Let them know in the comments of this post. (The Post and Courier)

Sports

Let’s go, Cogus — the College of Charleston Women’s Tennis team is competing in its conference championship. The Maroon and White are taking on Campbell University tomorrow at 6 p.m. for the Coastal Athletic Association title.

Number

38,775. That’s how many people registered for the Cooper River Bridge Run this year. That’s a few thousand off from the record-breaking 45,663 folks who registered to get over it in 2006.

Correction

We’ll be waiting a little longer before heading to the Charleston Museum to view the robe à la française worn by Eliza Lucas Pinckney. It’s not until Saturday, May 23, that you can view the fragile dress from the Museum’s historic textiles collection in ”Ringleaders of Rebellion: Charleston in Revolt, 1775 – 1783.”

Government

Let’s patch things up

You had big ideas for improving the city, but one kept popping up — potholes. Ready to smooth things over? You can help tackle that today.

How, you ask? Use the Citizen Services Desk, of course. In case you didn’t know, it’s your one-stop shop for non-emergency, local government information + services.

How do I use it?

Once you notice an issue, you have three options:

What can I request and report?

You can find help for issues ranging from abandoned vehicles to zoning code violations. But here are some of the most commonly requested services:
  • Fix a pothole
  • Repair the sidewalk
  • Missed garbage + trash collection
  • Report an overgrown yard
  • Clean a ditch or drain
What else does it do?

The Buy

Pop quiz. What can you wear while 1) driving 2) drinking your morning coffee, or 3) reading this newsletter to look more awake and help under eyes glow? Under eye patches. Be an under eye patch influencer and work these into your morning routine:

👁️ These award-winning under eye patches employ collagen, snail mucin, and hyaluronic acid to get the job done — you should notice an immediate difference in puffiness.
👁️ Go for green tea under eye patches to get the energizing benefits of caffeine directly on your skin — you’ll get 30 in a pack.
👁️ One of the most popular brands is grace & stella. Try a variety pack to learn which key ingredient — whether retinol, caffeine, or firming peptides — makes the biggest difference to your skin.
