The Steeplechase of Charleston returns next month

The Steeplechase of Charleston is a horse racing event that takes place about 40 minutes outside of downtown at the Stono Ferry Racetrack.

The Steeplechase of Charleston returns in just over a week on Sunday, Nov. 10 + we’re chomping at the bit. The event takes place about 40 minutes from downtown in Hollywood at the Stono Ferry Racetrack.

“The Steeplechase of Charleston is a celebration of our community’s horse racing heritage that dates back to 1734,” Executive Director Chris Zoeller said in a press release. He goes on to say — “We’re thrilled to offer a unique experience that brings together people from all over to witness the majesty and power of these incredible thoroughbreds and their skilled jockeys.”

Quick facts

  • Gates open: 8 a.m.
  • Opening ceremony: 12:30 p.m.
  • Races start: 1 p.m.

If you’re not into horse racing but still want to experience the event, there will be a merchant market, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and the Corgi race returns this year.
Tickets start at $90 + children ages 12 and younger can attend for free.
