Brookgreen Gardens, a botanical and sculpture garden and wildlife preserve in Georgetown County, has a mission to protect the Lowcountry’s flora + fauna.

Last month, a summer storm struck the 250-acre property with 80+ mph winds and caused more than $350,000 of damage. Trees, flowers, and an exhibit that housed hundreds of butterflies were all destroyed.

But there’s good news — the butterflies that survived the storm were rescued from the exhibit and relocated to the Living Conservatory at Raleigh’s North Carolina Museum of Science.
