On average, school supplies for an elementary school student can total $100+. When you factor in costs for uniforms, lunchboxes, school fees, and more, the total cost per student can double or even triple. This collection drive is aiming to ease that burden for local families.
How you can help: A backpack and supply bundle is less than $20, and donating online is quick + easy. The final day for the online drive is tomorrow (Friday, July 18).
$3.3 million. That’s how much the Charleston City Council approved in design funding for two community projects. The first: the new Johns Island Recreation Center, which will include a pool. The second includes upgrades to the WL Stephens Aquatic Center and a new Forest Park Playground Recreation Design Center.

Growing, growing, going to a new space. Kultura is moving to a larger space in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood. The team will call 267 Rutledge Ave. home this fall, and that space will have a larger dining room. Kultura will remain in its current space until the new spot is ready.

The event will be hosted aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point on Wednesday, August 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets will cost chamber members $45 and guests $55.

Home sweet home, a bottlenose dolphin dubbed “Lucky” is back swimming freely in the May River. Lucky became trapped in a neighborhood lagoon, likely entering through a culvert during high tide after a heavy rain. As the water receded, she was unable to escape. Thanks to a coordinated effort by the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network, Bluffton Township Fire District, and neighbors, Lucky was safely returned to deeper waters.
