Boeing begins billion-dollar expansion
Speaking of jobs, the construction effort will employ 2,500+ people. | Rendering provided by Boeing
ICYMI: Last Friday, Nov. 7, Boeing broke ground on a $1 billion expansion right here in North Charleston. The ceremony celebrated a project that will add a second final assembly building for the company’s 787 Dreamliner program.
The expansion will include:
A final assembly building similar to the current 1.2-million-sqft facility
A parts preparation area, a vertical fin paint facility, and Flight Line stalls
Additions to the area where parts for the aircraft’s interior are made
The construction effort will employ more than 2,500 people, and the project promises to bring over 1,000 new jobs to the area over the next five years.
Boeing has the goal to increase production to a rate of 10 airplanes per month in 2026. The new expansion will allow the site to support higher 787 production rates.
