Outstanding Bakery | Weltons Tiny Bakeshop Craving something freshly baked? Whether it’s cookies, biscuits, or croissants, this downtown spot has you covered. Fun fact: The bakeshop is expanding to make room for a full coffee program and seating so you can sit and enjoy your bakery bites.
The awards ceremony to reveal the winners will take place at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on Monday, June 15.

Charleston Housing Authority has canceled plans to redevelop one of its downtown apartment complexes. The 12 two-story units on Huger Street were supposed to be replaced by a five-story, 77-unit building. The housing authority’s board of commissioners voted to end the development agreement last Monday. (The Post and Courier)
Tech
Charleston International Airport has introduced self-service food kiosks available 24 hours a day. The machines are located on both the landside and airside areas of the terminal. The kiosks offer hot, ready-to-eat meals and snacks. They will be stocked with items from Cheesecake Factory Bakery, White Castle, and Wow Bao.
Holiday
Remember when the RiverDogs tried to pull that fast one on us last April Fools? We’re happy to report that Thirsty Thursday beers will remain $1. But consider this your official PSA: scroll with caution and keep an eye out for pranks popping up across social media from other Charleston businesses today.
Eat
James Beard Award-finalist Chef Nikko Cagalanan announced the return of his guest chef dinner series, Sama-Sama, at Kultura. The monthly series runs through July and invites chefs from across the country to collaborate for a special one-night-only five-course menu. The next meal is on Wednesday, April 29, at 5 p.m.
Sports
The College of Charleston Men’s Basketball team has a new leader. The school’s athletic department announced John Groce will take over the program. Groce was most recently the head coach at Akron and previously at Illinois and Ohio. Groce says he’s fired up to coach the Cougars.
Outdoors
South Carolina’s newest state park, The Meadows at Black River State Park, opens tomorrow, April 2 in Williamsburg County. The 2,000-acre site features river access, trails, a paddle launch, and picnic areas as part of a planned 70-mile river park network.
Spring Break is around the corner (read: next week in CCSD). Round up the kids and the snacks for some activities packed with history, culture, and fun.
