✨ Your ideas to brighten the block

The city’s Board of Architectural Review — L granted conceptual approval for a proposed MUSC sky bridge to better serve healthcare workers, patients, and students during flooding. The 25-ft-tall bridge, suspended 18 ft above ground, would connect four buildings.
This got us thinking. What other improvements would you like to see around the Charleston area?
Your improvement project ideas
There were lots of ideas for fixing potholes and expanding roads. Here are a few more ideas that stood out to us:
A regular water taxi service between Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, West Ashley, James Island, and the peninsula to make use of its waterways and reduce traffic.
Make King Street pedestrian-only from Calhoun down to Queen Street.
An online parking system where you can extend the time from your phone.

Mother’s Day is less than a month away on Sunday, May 10. If you’re looking for a simple way to celebrate the women who’ve shaped your life while supporting another mother in need, this initiative offers a meaningful option.
East Cooper Community Outreach serves nearly 3,000 neighbors each year — 74% of them women doing everything they can to care for their families.
This year, the organization is offering a limited-edition Mother’s Day card featuring artwork by a local Lowcountry artist. The watercolor captures a quiet moment between a mother and child, reflecting the care and connection shared by many families.
Cards are $25 or four for $100, with pickup or shipping available (through May 4).

Development
MUSC’s Board of Trustees is moving forward with its downtown Charleston campus master plan. It aims to expand its campus and strengthen its educational, research, and clinical spaces while improving and integrating stormwater management, landscaped open spaces, and adaptive infrastructure to enhance both environmental performance and quality of life.
Real Estate
An 185-acre undeveloped parcel in Mount Pleasant was purchased by Highland Resources, the developer behind Magnolia Landing. The property sits along the Wando River near Rivertown off Highway 41. If the town annexes the land, it will control development density; if not, Highland could move forward without town review.
Community
Sorry folks, park’s (temporarily) closed. Mount Pleasant’s Memorial Waterfront Park is set to reopen tomorrow with new picnic tables, benches, and trash cans inside the play area. Make plans to visit the recently opened splash pad, basketball and pickleball courts, and a dog area. (WCBD)
