Charleston County Park and Recreation recently acquired the 19-acre Sea Island Small Farmers Cooperative property in Hollywood, located on Wallace Creek ~40 minutes from Charleston.

There are plans to transform this site into a public park, emphasizing its historical and cultural significance.

Historical Significance

The property has ties to the 1739 Stono Rebellion and was an area in the 20th century where Black farmers could sell their locally grown produce.

Looking Ahead

A recent archaeological study has recommended further archaeological work to protect and preserve significant areas before opening the site to the public. The property will undergo a master planning process that includes community engagement. Potential features of the site include historical interpretation, water access for paddle sports and fishing, scenic water views, and a connection to the East Coast Greenway.
