In the Lowcountry, we take good food seriously. Here are 5 soul food spots around town offering local speciality dishes, crispy seafood, and tasty cornbread.
🍽️ Hannibal’s Kitchen, 16 Blake St.

This is soul food but geechee style. Get a taste of the signature shrimp and crab rice dish + Hoppin’ John — a unique Lowcountry meal made with black-eyes peas. Plan accordingly because this establishment gets busy.

🍽️ Bertha’s Kitchen, 2332 Meeting Street Rd.

Try the fried chicken, cornbread, and collard greens at this James Beard award winning restaurant. It’s cafeteria-style, so you’ll get your meal from behind the glass window. When driving, look for the blue building with a white sign in the front of it.

🍽️ Nana’s Seafood & Soul Uptown, 5117 Dorchester Rd. Ste. D, North Charleston

If you don’t do anything else, get the shrimp dinner. It’s fried to perfection. Other tasty meals include the fried oysters and deviled crab. Also, try “Nana’s Tea” to go along with your meal. Don’t forget to call and place your order ahead of time.

🍽️ My Three Sons of Charleston, 5237 Dorchester Rd., North Charleston

Get a taste of “Gramps Okra Soup” and the pork chop sandwich. Top off your meal with “Antwan’s Pecan Brownie.” There’s some good food coming out of this purple building.

🍽️ EastSide Soul Food, 46a Americas St.

Try the Charleston Red Rice and turkey wings. Thank us later.
