Chef Nikko Cagalanan and Paula Kramer to open Bareo

Bareo, a new concept from the team behind Kultura, is opening on Spring Street and aims to be a spot to celebrate good food and friendship.

The restaurant’s interior was inspired by Japanese lacquer boxes, don’t miss the matcha-green floor.

James Beard Award-finalist Chef Nikko Cagalanan and Paula Kramer are opening their newest concept, Bareo, a dumpling and kakigōri restaurant Friday, Feb. 13.

The cozy spot will stand at 73 Spring St., where its sister restaurant, Kultura, once stood (the acclaimed Filipino restaurant relocated to a larger space on Rutledge Avenue). Did you know? In Tagalog, “Bareo” translates to “neighborhood,” a nod to its Cannonborough–Elliotborough home.

These bento-style plates are meant for sharing, but we’re not so sure about that.

You can visit the intimate spot daily from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., where you can expect Japanese and Filipino cuisine. The menu features steamed dumplings with locally sourced, seasonal fillings, dumpling noodle soup, handrolls, and a rotating bento-style share plate. There will also be a kakigōri program featuring traditional Japanese and Filipino flavors.

Seats are limited, so secure your spot to try things out for yourself.
