A historic building at the Corner of King and Wentworth Streets in downtown Charleston has been transformed into 71 Wentworth, which features 12 luxury residences, following an extensive restoration project.
Originally constructed in 1872 as a Masonic Lodge, the building has served various roles, including a meeting space for the Washington Light Infantry and retail and office space.
The revitalization project led by East West Partners aimed to restore the architectural integrity of the building while adapting it for modern use. A feature of the restoration was the recreation of 41 Tudor Gothic-style windows, which involved precise laser measurements and custom fabrication. The effort to preserve these historic elements cost ~$2 million.
The initial pricing of the residences, which include two-and three-bedroom units, started at $1.7 million, and sold out within months, though one is currently available for purchase. The first floor of the building remains retail space.
