Ever wondered what it’s like inside of one of downtown Charleston’s historic homes? Here’s your chance to get a glimpse. The Preservation Society of Charleston has kicked off its annual Fall Tours. Lasting through November, the tours offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get a glimpse of private homes, architecture + gardens that you may never get to see otherwise – some of which are going virtual this year.

Whether you’re a history buff, have a green thumb or are simply a big fan of HGTV, there’s a tour for everyone. Plus: many of them are self-guided – meaning you can stroll through homes + gardens entirely at your own pace.

Here are a few of our favorite Fall Tours events:

Traditional House and Garden Tours

Dates: Friday-Sundays, Oct. 9-Oct. 24, 2-5 p.m. Locations vary by day.
Dollars: $65 per person
Details: A pass will grant you access to a self-guided tour through the city’s most unique + exquisite private houses and gardens. Every year offers a different lineup of homes and gardens, so we recommend this option to both first-timers and previous attendees.

Photography and Walkabout Workshop

Dates: Fridays, Oct. 16-Nov. 4, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Dollars: $60 per person
Details: This tour is perfect for photographers of all levels – from iPhone photographers to those toting professional gear. You’ll get the chance to explore downtown’s streets + alleys, with stops at the most picture-perfect locales. 📸

Spooky Halloween

Date: Sat., Oct. 31, 10 a.m.
Dollars: $30 per person
Details: Similar to other tours, you’ll still get a dose of history + architecture with this one, but you’ll also get to learn more about some of Charleston’s permanent residents. 👻

Virtual Tours

Dates: “The five virtual tours will publish every two weeks beginning Sun., Oct. 18, in conjunction with The Fall Tours, and will be available for purchase for a limited time only.”
Dollars: TBA
Details: Just because this fall may not have turned out the way we planned doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy historic home + neighborhood tours. Virtual tours in conjunction with the regular Fall Tours will be uploaded on Vimeo for limited time purchase.
