Treat yourself to a Charleston-inspired Girl Scout Cookie

Different cities and regions have plenty of localized menu items. Now it’s time for cookies to join the fray.

Wake up and smell the flour (and sugar). Girl Scout Cookie season is upon us — and our local council, the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina, are slinging sweet treats around town.

One question: After the Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs are all gone, what will we eat? In that disastrous scenario, we’d love to see these Charleston-inspired cookie ideas come to life:

  • A Charleston Chewy would be an homage to the famous chocolate bar, named after the dance, but we’re claiming it for this exercise. It would have a chocolate outer layer filled with nougat.
  • Our next idea is an easy one: Add benne wafers to the menu. The sweet, buttery, sesame-infused cookie would be a great addition to any Girl Scout’s cart.
  • Our final invention is the Huguenot Torte Crunch, an adaptation of the classic Lowcountry dessert. Combine apples, toasted pecans, and plenty of sugar for Charleston in a bite.
