Taking dining to new heights

Just in time for summer, The Indigo Road Hospitality Group plans to open Riva Mare, a new coastal Italian rooftop restaurant in the Charleston Design District at Navy Yard Charleston.

The concept was inspired by fishing villages along Italy’s Ligurian Coast and will serve Lowcountry seafood with European influence. Think local seafood, we’re talking crudos and whole-roasted fish.

Pretty soon, we’ll be sipping a cocktail atop Storehouse Nine.

The restaurant will sit atop Storehouse Nine and overlook the Cooper River — it’s also the first full-service food-and-beverage option to join the multi-phase Navy Yard Charleston redevelopment.

Stay tuned for who will lead the culinary team and an opening date. Until then, get a sneak peek of the space on Saturday, March 14, during Historic Charleston Foundation’s annual Charleston by Design fundraising event. Riva Mare will host an Insider’s Pass luncheon offering 100 guests a preview of the space.

Who doesn’t love a good coffee table book? Here’s one you’ll actually open — “Native Plants of Kiawah Island: A Collection of Watercolors,” by local artist Audrey Straus. It showcases nearly 200 original botanical paintings that define Kiawah Island’s landscape. Fun fact: a portion of sales will be donated to The Conservancy of the Sea Islands.

Plan Ahead

Next month, the Lowcountry Cajun Festival returns to James Island County Park. Join the celebration on Saturday, April 18 from 12 to 6 p.m. for music, kids’ activities, and most importantly, food. There will be jambalaya, etouffee, andouille sausage + crawfish, along with barbecue and traditional festival foods. (Holy City Sinner)

Seasonal

After losing an hour of sleep this past weekend, it’s time to make it worth it. Now that the sun is setting after 7 p.m. again, we can spend more time exploring Charleston’s beautiful parks. If you need some inspo, our events calendar will be full of outdoor fun for the foreseeable future.

Pets

Why did the chicken cross the road? To become friends with a pack of dogs, apparently. We can’t guarantee your pup will make friends of the poultry variety, but they’ll still have a good time at Charleston’s dog-friendly businesses. (Guardian)

The Word

Swiftie. The term is officially in the dictionary, defined as “a fan of the music of Taylor Swift.” While Swift isn’t set to perform in Charleston anytime soon, there are plenty of other upcoming concerts to look forward to here in the Lowcountry. (USA Today)

Festival

Speaking of concerts, on Thursday, April 2, Charleston Navy Yard’s Building 64 will host Spring Fest Charleston featuring Flo Rida and the Ying Yang Twins. (Holy City Sinner)

It’s like a Nancy Meyers movie come to life, think cozy-but-make-it-luxury — the kind of place where there are always fresh flowers inside, and deep conversations happen around its big kitchen island.

The waterfront Riverland Terrace home was built in 1954 and boasts ivy-covered brick, crisp white trim, and sweeping oak trees, giving it that classic Southern vibe.

The home spans 5,293 sqft, with four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Did we mention the home has Old Charleston brick and custom kitchen countertops crafted from reclaimed timber salvaged from a lumber mill following Hurricane Hugo? Oh yeah, and there’s a private dock with a 9,000-pound boat lift.
