So many things make Charleston, Charleston — and history is undoubtedly one of those things. Recently, 29 projects were recognized for playing a role in preserving history.
The Preservation Society of Charleston hosted the Carolopolis Awards — honoring residential, commercial, and institutional projects that help buildings maintain the character + authenticity of the Charleston area.
Award-winners showcase preservation excellence, and the plaques are awarded in five categories.

Both private and public projects are recognized in these awards. President + CEO of the Preservation Society, Brian Turner, said, “More than ever, people throughout the Charleston region are seeing themselves as caretakers of a shared heritage. That is perhaps the most meaningful achievement of all.”

Spring is in the air — and soon so will the smell of focaccia tartufata, because V Modern Italian is opening on Meeting Street.
The restaurant currently has one location in Nashville and is expanding its concept to the Lowcountry. Chef Stefano Ciotti is helping to craft the Charleston menu, which will offer antipasti, freshly made pastas, and wood-fired dishes.
Fun fact: The restaurant’s name is Roman numeral V, which reflects the brand’s dedication to all five senses.
V will be located in the Greystar Building, where The Select once stood. Stay tuned for the official opening date.
