We said goodbye to sports for a while, but they’re about to be served up once again.

While the highly anticipated 2020 Volvo Car Open was cancelled, there’s a new tournament coming to CHS. The Credit One Bank Invitational professional women’s tennis tournament will be taking place at LTP Daniel Island June 23-28. 🎾

The catch? None of us will be able to attend.

Following CDC guidelines + recommendations, this special event will take place virtually, and will instead be broadcast live as part of the Tennis Channel’s (Re)Open Tour – a series of events and exhibitions taking place during the pandemic. Tennis Channel will be streaming 40+ hours of the tournament made up of 16 singles matches + eight doubles matches. This invitational is currently the largest-scale tennis event confirmed since the sport was paused due to COVID-19.

Players include reigning Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin + reigning US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, along with 14 other high caliber athletes.

By hosting this virtual tournament, three goals are hoped to be accomplished: finding a tangible way to bring back live sports, allowing the community and fans from all over to support tennis professionals whose opportunities have been severely limited during this time, and helping local healthcare workers.

To achieve the third goal, a portion of the tournament’s proceeds will go to MUSC Health’s healthcare workers. MUSC Health will also be assisting in ensuring the execution of a secure environment for all players and staff through its health + safety protocols.

Tune in to the event live on the Tennis Channel June 23-28. Schedule here.
