Blackwells Corner brings mixed-use plans to downtown Hanahan

Hanahan will soon welcome Blackwells Corner, a new town center taking shape.

The development’s name was inspired by the longtime Blackwells Hardware.

We’re getting our first look at Blackwells Corner, a new mixed-use development coming to downtown Hanahan, a fast-growing suburb just minutes from the peninsula.

The plan calls for six new buildings, a central event lawn, and covered outdoor dining areas.

The 40,000-sqft community is designed to be a walkable hub that blends dining, shopping, business, and social opportunities. Fun fact: the plans are guided by resident survey feedback and aligned with the City of Hanahan’s long-term vision to revitalize downtown.

“It is a proud moment for our community to see this vital, historic part of Hanahan come back to life,” said Christie Rainwater, Mayor of Hanahan.

A modern building with large glass windows is adjacent to an open courtyard at dusk. String lights illuminate the area, where people sit and walk leisurely.

The plan is designed to support year-round community programming in a pedestrian-friendly setting.

Six new buildings will join the existing TideLine Aquatics storefront, all connected by a central event lawn and outdoor dining areas that will host community events.

Wondering where the name came from? It was inspired by the legacy of the original Blackwells Hardware, a beloved family-owned store that operated on the site for over 75 years before closing in 2025.

Groundbreaking is set for this summer, with a projected grand opening in fall 2027.
