The sweet scoop on Southern pecan pralines

So many options... | Photo via Pixabay

We’re about to blow your mind in just two words.

Southern pralines. That’s it.

While you might be familiar with the welcoming aroma of freshly-made goods — aka the praline — strolling by the sweet shops on Market Street, we’re telling you everything you need to know about this delicacy.

Pronounced pray-lean, the Southern treat + Charleston staple is made with pecans, sugar, whole milk or heavy whipping cream, butter, Karo syrup, and vanilla extract (more or less).

While there are a few variations of praline-making, we’re giving you the lowdown on one recipe to tackle this endeavor at home.

Southern Praline recipe:

Step 1: Mix + bring the sugar, syrup, and milk to a boil and stir.

Step 2: Once boiling for three minutes, remove the pot from the heat, and add butter, vanilla, and pecans.

Step 3: Let the mixture stand until it thickens and then pour the batter onto a cooling rack where it will sit for at least four hours.
