Have you heard of the US 52 Corridor Study? The study area includes the 18 miles between the intersection of US Hwy. 17-Alt. and Rembert C. Dennis Boulevard in Moncks Corner and University Boulevard in North Charleston.

The Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments is examining the land use, transportation needs for drivers, walkers, and bikers, and safety of the corridor as the area continues to develop.

Timeline

  • Phase I: Spring 2021 — Assess existing conditions, develop short-term needs and recommendations to improve capacity and safety.
  • Phase II: Summer-Fall 2021 — Define and examine alternative future land use scenarios.
  • Phase III: Winter 2022 — Select a preferred land use scenario and recommend long-term improvements.
  • Phase IV: Spring 2022 — Prepare the draft and final plans, including implementation + funding strategies.

The first public input meetings on the study will be held today and tomorrow. Today’s gathering will be held at Goose Creek Fire Station from 5-7:30 p.m. Tomorrow’s meeting will take place at Moncks Corner Town Hall from 5-7:30 p.m.
