Charleston’s 2019 Mayoral Election results + runoff election info

You voted, Charleston. Now that you’ve done your civic duty, it’s time to see the outcome. Here is the rundown of the 2019 Mayoral Election results.

We know what you’re thinking this a.m.: Do we have a new mayor? And, we wish we had a cut + dry answer for you. But, alas, it’s more complicated than that.

Tuesday’s mayoral elections resulted in a runoff, because no candidate got at least 50% of the vote. So, election season will last a bit longer. Mark your calendar: Runoff elections are Tuesday, Nov. 19. 🗳️

Here’s who we’ll be voting for in the runoff:

Mayor John Tecklenburg (incumbent) – 12,411 votes (48%)
Councilman Mike Seekings – 8,803 votes (34%)

So, who won the other mayoral seats?

North Charleston

Mayor Keith Summey (incumbent) was elected for a seventh term.

James Island

Mayor Bill Woolsey (incumbent) won re-election after running unopposed.

Summerville

Ricky Waring will be serving his first term as Summerville’s mayor.
