This week, tens of thousands of spectators are expected to show at the Country Club of Charleston for the 74th U.S. Women’s Open tournament – the first golf major to be held within our city limits – with up to 30K visitors coming into CHS for the event. The tournament is considered the world’s premier women’s golf championship + is expected to have a $25 million economic impact on our region.
Tickets are still on sale, and range from single-day gallery passes to weekly packages to all-inclusive upgraded tickets. Bonus: After 2 p.m. tomorrow + Friday, the USGA is offering $20 walk-up general admission pricing and half-off drinks. Talk about an extra happy happy hour.

While the U.S. Women’s Open’s annual tradition dates back to 1946, the history of golf in the United States dates all the way back to 1739 – and it all started right here in Charleston.
A financial ledger of Scottish businessman Andrew Wallace, dated June 1739, recorded payments for golf clubs + balls that were delivered to Wallace’s brother William in ‘Charleston, Carolina.’ Shortly thereafter, in 1786, South Carolina Golf Club was founded in Charleston– citing Charleston as the “birthplace” of American Golf.
