Charleston Southern University will launch its third doctoral program, a PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision, in fall 2026.

Offered primarily online, the program is designed for future counselor educators, researchers, supervisors, and leaders.

The College of Health Sciences includes four graduate programs:

  • Physician Assistant
  • Physical Therapy
  • Clinical Counseling
  • And the new PhD

Plus, undergraduate programs in kinesiology and public health.

A new early acceptance pathway for future Doctor of Physical Therapy students is upcoming.

“We’re actively exploring opportunities to expand our current programs while adding new ones to address critical workforce needs,” says Dr. Gabby Poole, dean of the College of Health Sciences.

“Our goal is to remain responsive and innovative — creating pathways that support students and the health systems that rely on well-trained professionals.”

The highly-selective PhD enrolls up to 12 students per year, requires 60 credit hours, and features an embedded dissertation.

Program Chair Dr. Angela Weaver says graduates will be prepared to lead with wisdom, competence, and Christian character.
