Pimento cheese — also known as the pâté of the south and Carolina caviar. It’s a staple here in the Lowcountry, typically made from cheese, mayonnaise, and pimentos. While the dip or spread can stand alone, it can take dishes, sandwiches, and even grits to the next level when generously dolloped on top.

We passed the mic to you to learn about the best spots in the Lowcountry serving pimento cheese; then, we took a peek at the menu for a few items catching our eye.

  • Sandy P. recommended Page’s Okra Grill. | Pimento cheese is mentioned a total of 17 times across the restaurant’s brunch, lunch, and supper menus. Try out the loaded pimiento cheese fries.
  • Carolyn G. suggested Roxbury Mercantile in Meggett. | Try this spot’s house-made version of the dip with crackers or on one of its burgers.
  • An anonymous reader told us all about Carolima’s Lowcountry Cuisine. | We’re eyeing this catering service’s fried green tomatoes topped with house-made pimento cheese.

Fun fact: Although it’s famous and well-loved in the south, the cheese concoction was created in New York.
