Earlier in the year, the MICHELIN Guide introduced a new distinction — the MICHELIN Key — and this month, seven Charleston hotels were honored with this recognition.

The MICHELIN Key recognizes hotels for outstanding stays and the selection team has five universal criteria when choosing:

  • Excellence in architecture + interior design
  • Quality and consistency of service
  • Overall personality and character
  • Value for the price
  • Significant contribution to the neighborhood or setting

The levels of a MICHELIN-rated hotel:

  • One Key: a very special stay
  • Two Keys: an exceptional stay
  • Three Keys: an extraordinary stay
