Happy fall, Charleston.

While fall officially began on September 22, do we ever really know when the seasons change in the Lowcountry?

Don’t get me wrong, I love sunny, 70 degree days in October. However, this does put a damper on my beginning-of-fall rituals. You know, cider, bonfires, pumpkin drinks, all that jazz. So if you’re anything like me, you’re finding yourself looking for ways to make fall feel like fall, when it quite literally does not feel like fall.

Look no further, friends. I’ve compiled a list of a few things I like to do to help you get into the fall spirit.

A good old fashioned oyster roast. There’s just something special about stuffing your face with some freshly cooked, all-you-can-eat oysters surrounded by your close friends or family. Lucky for us, these events are not few and far between in the Lowcountry. Check out this oyster roast happening every weekend at Art’s Bar & Grill (413 Coleman Blvd., Mount Pleasant).

Fall celebrations. Throughout the month of October, there are various venues that will be hosting fall celebrations. From pumpkin painting to cider tasting, these celebrations are sure to get you in the fall spirit + offer something for the whole family. Don’t miss out on this fall festival that will be offering pony rides.

Pumpkin carving. The minute that the calendar switches to October, I head to the closest pumpkin patch + pick the perfect pumpkin to carve. Grab a few friends and start a competition for your creations to amp up the excitement. Pro tip: roast the pumpkin seeds.

Baking. Specifically, all things pumpkin. Not only is pumpkin flavored anything a sure bet to be a crowd pleaser, you’ll also have a sweet, lingering aroma in your kitchen. Double whammy. However, if baking isn’t in the cards for you, Brown’s Court Bakery (199 St Philip St.) or Saffron Bakery (333 E Bay St.) have you covered.

State Fair. The South Carolina State Fair, but make it drive-through. Free of charge, on October 20 + 21, you can enjoy your favorite fair foods from the comfort of your own car. The same State Fair that we all know + love but socially-distant? Sign me up.
