A proposal to redevelop Union Pier into a mixed-use development has been submitted to the city.

Last week, the SC Ports Authority and partner LOWE submitted a draft plan for the waterfront property to the City of Charleston. The ~65-acre site is located between Market and Laurens streets on the peninsula.

The project aims to provide waterfront access for the community. A 2022 master plan for the development included walkways, housing, green space, and shops. Project goals include improving mobility and reducing flooding on the peninsula.

The proposed redevelopment has several more rounds of review ahead. There will be opportunities ahead for the community to provide feedback, but in the meantime, you can submit a comment here.
